Dr. Fontanes
we are excited to introduce KINDERGARTEN teacher Dr. Fontanes, a familiar face shaping young minds at Marblehead for years!
About
Dr. Fontanes is a proud mother to Daisy and Lilah, who attended Marblehead and are now at San Clemente High School! Her greatest accomplishment? Raising two beautiful, intelligent, and resilient daughters.
When she is not traveling or teaching, Dr. Fontanes can be found riding her BMW motorcycle, playing on a women’s soccer team, doing hot yoga, or with her precious pup, Tilly. She gets to see her best friend of 30 years every day because she works at Marblehead! The kids know her as Ms. Sally! Click here to check out a list of her favorite things!
Travel Is Her Passion
Dr. Fontanes is an avid traveler and has visited six continents (so far)! She recently went on a solo trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Witnessing the African sunset, exploring the Serengeti, and seeing wildlife roam free in the Ngorongoro Crater were experiences that left her awe-inspired.
Journey in Education
A proud alum of CSU Chico and CSU Fullerton, Dr. Fontanes has an extensive academic background. Her pursuit of lifelong learning led her to earn a Doctorate in Education (ED.D) in Educational Leadership. Dr. Fontanes shared: “It has always been a personal goal of mine to gain as much knowledge as I can as an educator and to learn about the behind-the-scenes decisions that go into running a successful classroom/school.”
Having started her journey at Marblehead since its inception in 2001, she's taught multiple grades from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. She has been awarded “Teacher of the Year” not once but twice!
A Word of Wisdom
To parents: " Children hear and see more than we realize. They internalize everything, whether we think they are or not. The students like to share lots of details of things that happen outside of school.”
To her students: " Laughter can cure just about anything!"
#MightyMarblehead
We asked Dr. Fontanes what makes Marblehead Mighty:
“I think that the diversity of Marblehead is one of the greatest gifts that make it a mighty school. The teachers of Marblehead work extremely hard to make inclusivity an essential part of our school culture. I am proud to say that both of my daughters attended Marblehead from Kinder through 5th grade.”
